About this place

Added by Jennifer Peer

This is an amazing National Natural Landmark that can be enjoyed by all, either by climbing through the boulders or sighseeing from the outskirts of the field.

Boulder Field is easily found following signs in Hickory Run State Park and has its own parking lot. Boulder Field is a small piece of landscape leftover from the last ice advance thousands of years ago. It covers an area of 400 feet wide by 1,800 feet long and about 10 feet deep. Boulders range in size from 25 feet to several inches in length. It is a stunning combination of nature, science and history. Boulder Field is open to climb and explore, just be careful of loose boulders when navigating through. Even though you'll be climbing through rocks, it is surprisingly flat. There are plenty of places to enjoy Boulder Field along the sides if boulder hopping isn't your thing. Boulder Field is dog friendly, but my dogs short legs had a very difficult time getting through, so we felt it was safer to keep her on the sides. We also had a difficult time finding an open restroom nearby, not sure if it was the time of year we were there (early March), but the only one available was at the Park Office, so keep that in mind before heading out to Boulder Field.

Cool Rock Scramble
Cool spot to explore, accessed by a pretty dirt road. Not too much to hike, but plenty of rocks to scramble over.
