Lancaster County Central Park Loop

Lancaster County Central Park offers a richly woven network of over 13 miles of multi-use trails, including a prominent approximate 8.1-mile loop—often referred to as the Central Park Loop. This trail system meanders across diverse landscapes: wooded creek corridors, open meadows, rolling fields, and scenic overlooks.

Permits & Seasonal Access

• No permits required—the park is publicly accessible to all.

• Open year-round, typically from dawn to dusk. Winter visitors may encounter snowshoeing and cross-country skiing opportunities.

Parking & Facilities

Convenient parking lots (both small and large) are distributed throughout the park, with particularly good access from Rockford Road. Facilities include restrooms (some seasonal), picnic areas, six rentable pavilions, garden plots (April–October), a skate park, a swimming pool, camping (tent-only area with amenities), and the Shuts Environmental Library.

Dogs

• Dogs are welcome, but must be leashed. The trail network is popular with dog walkers, hikers, horseback riders, and bikers

Hiking, Biking & Equestrian Use

• The trail system supports hiking, trail running, mountain biking, horseback riding, biking, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing, depending on season and trail conditions.

• However, biking is technically “unsanctioned” due to an old liability law—though many visitors still ride at their own risk.
