Choke Creek Falls

Hiking to Choke Creek Falls is easy! The hike down to the waterfall is less than a mile and the payoff is a scenic two story waterfall.

From the curve in Phelps Road, take the gated forest road downhill about 1/3 of a mile to a clearing. From here, the trails splits. Take the trail to the right, which is also gated and descends down to Choke Creek at a man made bridge/beaver damn. 

Cross the bridge and immediately turn left onto an unmarked trail that follows the stream. After another five minute walk, you'll reach beautiful Choke Creek Falls. (Note: If you stay on the original trail after crossing the bridge, it will also take you to the stream, just above the falls. Make a left at the stream and the falls is just a short walk away. You should be to hear the running water.)

The falls has a nice plunge pool that local kids like to swim and jump into in the summer. There's even a rope swing for the adventurous. 

It is legal to camp at the falls and there are a few sites with fire rings. Always aim to leave no trace.

I hope to help local trail groups reroute the nearby Pinchot Trail to this falls and along Choke Creek later in 2017.

*Pinchot State Forest was formally known as Lackawanna State Forest and some maps will still call it Lackawanna. It was only renamed in 2015.
