About this place

Added by Shawn Grenninger

Bohen Run is a great short hike 2 great waterfalls and some great stop-off spots along Pine Creek. It can be hiked as an out-and-back 4-miler or it can be done as a loop with the West Rim Trail at roughly 8.5 miles.

Parking for this trail is at the Blackwell access area off of route 414. Then walk across the the bridge over Pine Creek and immediately hop over the guardrail to your right for the Bohen Trailhead.

The beginning of the trail becomes narrow and steep for a short climb. The trail then levels off passes through mountain laurel. The first waterfall, Jerry Run Falls, will be about a half mile hike from route 414. Currently there are several downed trees in the area, but it's still a beautiful waterfall.

After crossing Jerry Run, above the falls, the trail ascends briefly and then continues at a slight decline. There is a rock fireplace off trail to the right.

The trail eventually splits with blue blazes turning right leading down toward Pine Creek and the yellow blazes continuing at the same elevation. The yellow blazes will continue to and eventually ascend in elevation and meet up with the West Rim Trail for the loop option.

The out-and-back option offers a great place to relax as well as the best view of Bohen Run Waterfall. Follow the blue blazes down towards Pine Creek. Once close to the creek there are several primitive campsites. The blue blazes begin to get scattered, but continue up creek; there is an awesome campsite where Bohen Run goes into Pine Creek. Great spot for coffee or a lunch break or just to hang out.

From this point, don't forget to hike up Bohen Run. It has several small cascades but eventually leads to a larger, impressively photogenic waterfall.

The out-and-back option is a shorter hike, but provides two waterfalls and a beautiful spot to chill, brew some coffee, and eat a brunch next to the creek before trekking back to civilization. Remember to pack out all of your trash.

Just in case you need it, there are restrooms at the parking lot.
