Hike the Katy Jane Trail in Rider Park

Hiking, trail running, mountain bike riding, cross country skiing and other low impact recreational activities are all part of what Rider Park has to offer. My personal favorite is the 3.6 mile Katy Jane Trail with a 560 vertical rise. It begins on the right side of the parking area. The trails are very well-marked and quickly begin the uphill climb at a very steady pace. After about a mile, you are soon rewarded with a wonderful view the North of the Loyalsock state forest. It is worth the time to sit and take in a sunrise in the early spring and late fall, if you get up that early.

After taking your time with the view, keep heading along the trail for yet another vista - only this time towards the south back towards Williamsport. Once again, have a seat and enjoy the view; this is an excellent spot to watch the sun set almost anytime of year.

When you continue on the trail you will be faced with a fork in the road. Take the left fork and it will be about a mile back to the parking are; take the right and it is a bit easier route and only about .7 mile back to the parking area. I prefer to go to the left because the last leg of the trail is a bit more closed with tree cover and doesn't feel like an old logging road.

If you take your dog, remember to have him on a leash as to not disturb others on the trail.
