About this place

Added by Shawn Grenninger

The Pinchot Trail, built by the Sierra Club's Northeast Pennsylvania Group and located in the southern corner of Lackawanna County, is an excellent warmup or beginner backpacking trail.  The trail systems totals 22 miles but can be broken up by the North or South Loops. The North loop is mostly flat hiking and the South loop provides some elevation change.

The trail system can be a little tricky, so having a map is a good idea and the highlight is Choke Creek Falls which is where we camped when we hiked the trail in February.

CAMPING
A no-fee camping permit is required. Permits can be obtained from the state forest office. Please follow local area camping guidelines.

GETTING THERE

Take Exit 178 off I-81, and follow PA 315 through Dupont (away from the airport). After approximately 1.1 miles, turn left at the stop light onto Suscon Road and continue for 12.2 miles. The trailhead is on the left side of the highway, with additional parking off Bear Lake Road just passed the entrance for the trailhead. Google Pinochet Trail Parking if in need of additional parking.
