About this place

Added by Carter Clark

This amazing basalt wall hosts climbs ranging in levels from very beginner to the advanced intermediate routes. The approach is nothing and there are other good crags nearby.

To get to Gunko Wall, you can ask any taxi driver in Boquete to take you to "Los Ladrillos". The wall is right off the road, being absolutely impossible to miss. That being said, there is still ample room to belay, park your car, etc.

The rainy season in Boquete is from August to November, which means there are often rains in the afternoon. Get out and climb early and you can get hours of climbing in before the rains come.

The routes on this wall range from 5.4 to 5.11b. From left to right, the routes are graded as follows: 5.9, 5.10a, 5.10a, 5.10a, 5.11a, 5.10b, 5.9, 5.7, 5.9, 5.10d, 5.11c, 5.11a, 5.10c, 5.11b, and everything past that on the far right is around 5.4 - 5.6. The most amount of bolts on any line is 8.

You must have someone with you who can lead, because there is no top roping accessible without climbing the wall.

If you don't have your climbing gear with you in Panama, you can rent all of the gear you need in town. Boquete has a strong community of local climbers, so feel free to ask anymore questions when you find them at the wall.

Also, as a bonus to this wall, just across the street there is a cut through down to the Río Caldera. It is the best place for a post-climb refreshing swim.
