About this place

Added by Ben Beyers

Wander through Cape Meares State Scenic Viewpoint for amazing panoramic views of the Oregon Coast and a chance to visit the Cape Meares Lighthouse.

This historic site served as a major lighthouse for years and was turned into a scenic viewpoint offering some rad views of the Oregon Coast. The park is located only about 10 miles west of Tillamook. The parking lot has limited space so get there as early as you can.

The Cape Meares lighthouse sits about 38ft above the water and is only a 0.2 mile walk from the parking lot.  While there is no access inside lighthouse itself, you can walk around it and take in the views.

Walking about another a 0.3 miles from the lighthouse through the moss covered forest will get you to the Octopus Tree. This spruce is shaped like an octopus and is believed to be about 300 years old.

Great place to visit
Awesome spot to watch for migrating whales. It actually sits over 200 feet above the water. Quite the view!
