About this place

Added by Alex E

The winds ripping through the Columbia River Gorge make it one of the best places to Kiteboard or Kitesurf in the world.

Kiteboarding is one of the fastest growing sports in the world and for good reason. Imagine racing over the water with 30 mph winds, jumping from waves and grinding on a rail with your board. Ok ok maybe that is way to much for most of us and just standing up would be an accomplishment, but Kiteboarding in the beautiful Columbia River Gorge with Mt. Hood in the background is priceless.

That's exactly what you can do on this adventure. The guys down at Kite The Gorge have it down to a science and they are ready to outfit and train anyone from a novice to a seasoned vet. Learn from world class instructors on all the basic fundamentals of Kiteboarding or Kitesurfing if this is your first time. Kite The Gorge can get you all set up with the newest gear and certified IKO license for you to use at any IKO center around the world.

Depending on how qualified you intend to become Kiteboarding, lessons can take a couple weeks and upwards of 2,000 dollars. Beginner lessons are usually for a couple hours and around 200-300 dollars. You start on land for your first training sessions in order to become acquainted with your gear and terminology. Once you are comfortable its out to the water to hone your skills.

The staff down at Kite The Gorge is very professional and safety oriented. I highly recommend them to anyone looking to get into the sport or just looking for a day of adventure in the Hood River area. Kite The Gorge along with a few other companies are located in the Hood River Waterfront Park area. The park also holds professional Kiteboarding events so check the schedule when your passing through.

After you work up an appetite crushing the Gorge, head into town for a cold beer and great food at Full Sail Brewing Company. They offer some great beers you can only get at the brewery, all with an amazing view of the Columbia River Gorge.
