Airport Dike Trail

Parking for this hike can be found at either end of the trail. It starts at the west end of the Lewis & Clark Bridge from a small access road that is used as a parking lot. From here it is a flat walk along an old grassy road that is well maintained. If you forgot to bring along bags to pick up after your dog, there is no need to worry because they are provided for free at the trailhead by the City of Warrenton. 

This trail provides excellent opportunities for the birding enthusiast as it makes its way through the Youngs River Estuary. Unobstructed views of Astoria and the Megler Bridge to Washington provide wonderful photography opportunities. The latter half of the hike runs parallel to the Astoria Airport runway, providing close up and unobstructed view of aircraft landing and taking off. This hike ends at the west end of the Youngs Bay where parking is also available, however there is only room for about two vehicles here. This end of the hike connects to the Bayfront Dike Trail, however this involves crossing Highway 101, so use caution if you choose to take this route.
