About this place

Added by Jhamil Bader

Gorton Creek Falls is a stunning two tiered 149ft waterfall and several smaller falls. Trail runs alongside the beautiful Gorton Creek. Last 200 ft of the hike provides a challenging climb along the creek bed.

The Gorton Creek Falls hike provides an excellent challenge for those who are searching for a bit of adventure. The trailhead starts at the Wyeth Campground day use area, and continues straight at the intersection. The first 2/3rds of the trail are relatively easy to traverse (depsite being rough) and run along the beautiful Gorton Creek which has many small falls. The final climb provides a decent challenge, and should not be attempted by anyone who isn't agile and comfortable on their feet. After reaching the end of the defined trail, one has to climb over and around the many moss covered boulders surrounding the creek for about 100ft. Then there is a small herd path that runs along the remainder of the canyon to the falls. During the summer months when the water is running much lower, the hike is easier as one can walk directly up the creakbed, though its no less of a workout. It's strongly recommended to take a partner with you, just in case you need help, though it can be done solo. The hike is not very family friendly, and shouldn't be completed with kids under middle school age.

The major falls at the end of the hike drop 149ft down from the top of the canyon in two tiers (the top tier largely being hidden by the shape of the canyon) and land in a small basin below, before cascading down the canyon via two tributaries. In the middle of the basin there is a small rock that you can stand on which allows for a great photographical moment, but be prepaired to get wet!

Its advised to take a change of clothes (at least an extra pair of socks and shoes) for this very reason, as there is a good chance of getting wet at one point or another during the hike.
