About this place

A rural escape only 10 miles from Portland. Perfect beaches to chill at during the summer. Pick fresh berries and fruit at local farms.

During those summer days when you’re desperately seeking some sand between your toes, open space to soak up the sun, and nature to play around in…Sauvie Island is calling your name.

Located just 10 miles outside of downtown Portland, Sauvie Island offers a convenient rural escape that’s just begging to be explored. You’ll find lakes to fish, sand beaches to wander, water to paddle, farms to pick fresh fruit, and trails to hike. If you’re looking to enjoy the sun and cool off with the occasional dip in the water, we recommend posting up at Collins Beach – a nearly 2 mile stretch of beautiful sand. Just a word of caution: there is a “clothing optional” section of the beach, but it’s easy enough to avoid if full-body tanning isn’t your scene.

Parking in the wildlife areas of the island requires a permit, so you’ll need to pick up one up ($7/day) at The Cracker Barrel Store right after you cross the bridge to Sauvie.

Here is a map of the island.
