When the temperature starts to creep up in the summer, Lost Lake is the perfect escape. The campground provides you with everything you could want – miles of scenic hiking, a multitude of water activities, and even a general store for anything you might have forgotten at home.
The lakeside tent campsites are first-come, first-served, and can be hard to score during peak summer weekend…but the views in the morning are well worth the trouble. In particular, sites 1-31 have a direct view of Mt. Hood. During the summer, you’ll probably need to arrive on Thursday to secure one of these coveted spots. If you miss out on the tent sites, there are cabins and yurts to rent (although more expensive).
Once you’ve set up camp, hike either the 3-mile loop around the lake, or the more ambitious 2-mile Lost Lake Butte Trail that ascends 1,400 feet and provides 180 degree views of Mt. Hood and Mt. Adams. Cool off with a dip in the lake.
