Climb at the Tramway of Mount San Jacinto

John Muir once wrote, "The view from San Jacinto is the most sublime spectacle to be found anywhere on this earth!" So it's no surprise that this is a sought after destination for hikers and climbers alike. 

Named after the fact that most climbers use the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway to reach this climbing area (rather than hiking up the 10,834' mountain), The Tramway is a granite city scattered all around the upper tramway station and the mountain's peak. With over 450 climbing routes, this is a popular destination for climbers of all skill levels. 

During the summer high-season, where temperatures on the desert floor rise above 100 degrees, The top of Mount San Jacinto is a popular escape.The cost to get to the bouldering area via tram is $23.95 per day, or you can go ahead and invest in a season pass if you are going to frequent the area. 

Upon arrival to the top of the mountain, head down the path towards the boulders and stop at the ranger station to fill out a free wilderness permit, even for day use. 

Getting There 

Traveling eastbound on Interstate 10 exit Highway 111 to Palm Springs, travel 8 miles to the first signal and turn right at Tramway Road. The Valley Station is located approximately 4 miles up Tramway Road. 

Traveling from San Diego take Interstate 15 North to Interstate 215 North to Highway 60 East to Interstate 10 East. Exit Highway 111 to Palm Springs. Turn right on Tramway Road. The Valley Station is located approx. 4 miles up Tramway Road.
