Explore Walker Canyon

Walker canyon is within easy driving distance from most places in Orange County and San Diego which makes for a great day trip.  While there is no official parking lot for the trail you will be able to find parking all along Lake Street and Walker Canyon Road.  The trail begins at the corner of Lake St and Walker Canyon Rd.  The trail begins with a moderate incline which continues for 10 minutes or so.  At this point the trail breaks off in several directions with smaller trails going up further individual hills. The main trail levels out and continues back in to the hills.  The trail is very easy and well defined and so it is great for people (and dogs) of all skill levels. 

While this would be a decent walk at any point in the year, I would recommend heading out there as soon as possible to catch the "super bloom"! From now (end of March) to early April you'll find stunning fields of poppies in every direction along this walk.  The flowers can be found everywhere so feel free to go off on any of the small trails just be respectful of the flowers. 

Fair warning: This spot has become somewhat of a major sightseeing location with the "super bloom" so I would highly recommend going on a weekday if possible.  On weekends there can be crowds of close to a thousand people.  However, even when it is this crowded if you hike for at least 30 minutes on the trail the crowds will begin to dissipate and you'll get some space to yourself!
