Hike Black Mesa

Sitting on the northwestern tip of the panhandle, Black Mesa is the highest point in Oklahoma. The trail is 4.2 miles each way, and takes around 4 hours to complete. Marked by mileage signs, the trail is flat for the first several miles, before ascending 600 feet along switchbacks. After you reach the top of the mesa, it is another mile to the granite obelisk that marks the highest point. The obelisk shares how how many miles it is to each neighboring state. The hike is without a doubt, worth the view.

The trail is open year round, but has little to no shade, so it is best to start early and be aware of the weather when doing this hike. There is a parking lot and vault toilet at the trailhead, but no water station.
