About this place

Added by Dan Barr

Located on the remnants of the last of Ohio's native prairies, Prairie Oaks Metro Park is home to the Big Darby State and National Scenic River, one of the most biodiverse watersheds in the country, with the Darby Bend Lakes being the scenic focal point of the park.

Parking at the Whispering Oaks Picnic Area on the west side of the park, start on the Darby Greenway Trail and follow it north across the river until you reach the beginning of the Lake View Trail. This 0.9 mile trail takes you along the largest of the Darby Bend Lakes, and even takes you past a remnant Adena Mound at the north end of the trail.

To explore the additional lakes, continue along to the River Rock Trail, a 0.7 mile long trail that hugs Big Darby Creek on one side and the remaining lakes on the other. Scenic shallow wetlands and river birch can be found here, and aquatic wildlife is plentiful in both the lakes and the river.

The lakes are open recreationally to kayaks, fishing, paddle boarding, and swimming during the appropriate season.

For more information on the hours, programs, and status of the park, check out the following website: http://www.metroparks.net/park...
