About this place

Added by Dan Barr

Featuring Ohio's only paved bikeway within a state nature preserve, the Blackhand Trail is a excellent scenic cycling getaway in Central Ohio!

Both the eastern and western trailhead have ample parking and access to the Blackhand Trail, which winds its way along the banks of the Licking River for a 4.3 mile one way trip.

While the trail isn't terribly long, it makes up for it in its scenery, staying within eyesight of the Licking River for almost its entire length, and passing through sections of sandstone walls towering dozens of feet above the trail. Wildlife such as white-tailed deer are plentiful along the trail, and the shade provided by the deep ravine's native hemlocks combined with prevailing winds make it a cool place to escape summer's heat.
