Winter Hike to Kvalvika Beach

From the parking lot walk across the road to the small sign indicating which way the trail begins through the bushes. The beginning of the trail heads through the birch forest and can be boggy in places. In the winter the trail can be hard to follow at times but on average stay to the right and you should be able to follow the path.

After 10-15 minutes you will likely start clearing the trees as you begin the final and mostly gentle ascent to the pass. As you approach the pass the trail will become noticeably rockier. The trail that begins on the right side of the valley begins to head towards the center as you reach the pass. If you have not already, this is a good place to put on some traction devices, as the descent to the beach from the pass can be slippery and steep.

The descent is pretty straightforward and follows the trail down to the beach. There are numerous switchbacks that make it slightly easier on your knees, but be prepared! As you approach the beach on the right is a path that leads up the summit of Ryten. In the winter it is likely that much of the descent will be covered and snow as will much of the beach. Just be ready, to get back to your car you will have to retrace your steps back to the pass...

Extra Credit: If you carefully work your way through the rocks at the far left end, there is another beach that is also beautiful but even more remote than Kvalvika.
