Check out the views from the top of this mountain just minutes from the town of Leknes in the Lofoten Islands. To the north you’ll overlook a fantastic peninsula, with a bay that is reminiscent of the Caribbean Sea (in the right light), and to all other directions are the countless peaks and fjords of the islands. Epic views are abundant from this beautiful spot.
Like many of the hikes on the Lofoten Islands, there is no official trail or trailhead for this hike. To find it, take the E10 highway out of Leknes toward Å for about 6.5km. Keep your eyes pealed for a small trail on the north side of highway, and there is room for 3-4 cars to park on the side of the road here. If you make it to the tunnel, you’ve gone to far. This location marks the trail, and the coordinates are 68.154442, 13.513650.
The trail leads up the mountain to the north and is extremely easy to follow as it is well worn. If you end up losing it somehow, just keep hiking uphill until you reach the high point! From there, you can clearly see the trail all the way back down so it’s super straight forward. Having said that, it is a steep hike, you’ll feel the legs and it should take a reasonably fit person about an hour to hike up. There is a false summit so be prepared for that and don’t let it get your spirits down!
In the days of the midnight sun in the summer, this is a stellar “sunset/sunrise” location during the golden light as the sun will approach the horizon directly to the north of the mountains in the distance. It’s a spectacular spot and is not to be missed!
