A great day hike with stunning views of the mountains around Wanaka and beautiful views of the lake the entire way that can be walked year-round. Open to walkers and bikers, both can enjoy getting out of town and enjoying a day along the lake.
This walk can also be started from the waterfront in Wanaka, which is only a few km from the track start above.
From the car park, follow the track along the lake north. It is quite well marked and follows the coastline offering stunning views of the mountains on both sides of the lake. Depending on the weather, you can often see Roy's Peak to the west of the track. Follow the track until you reach Glendhu Bay.
There are some steeper sections of the walk, but is mainly flat. Biking, there are some sections with loose rocks but for the most part it is an easy ride.
Overall, it's a great way to see Lake Wanaka!
Please note that the route I have listed as point to point, so if you want to walk back to the car park afterwards, the total kilometers walked will be 30kms.
