Scramble to Mt. Armstrong just above the Brewster Hut for fantastic views to the east and west of the Alps. Mt.Brewster and its glacier are readily accessible to experienced trampers.
After a short walk from the Fantail Falls parking lot, the trail crosses the river to reach the beginning of the track. It's unlikely you'll avoid getting your feet wet.
The track heads up through the steep and rooted slopes until you break treeline after several thousand feet of elevation gain. Not gonna lie, this one is a serious grunt. The trail ends at the Brewster Hut, where more reasonable people can choose to spend the night. Check out this adventure from one those more reasonable people.
Reaching the summit requires picking your way up the talus slopes directly behind the hut for another 2,000 ft. The reward? A sublime view of the southern alps in every direction.
