About this place

Beautiful cliff walk to get a little sprayed by the water and to listen to the ocean waves. Enjoy relaxing and watching some surfers when you get to the quaint beach.

The Montauk Point Lighthouse is one of the main attractions of "The End" of Long Island, but I've only ever walked around it on the cliff walk.

When you get to the lighthouse, you can park in the parking lot (depending on when you go there may be a $8 fee). Right along the edge overlooking the water are a couple of swing benches to sit and enjoy the view before or after your walk, or even both!Go down towards the lighthouse and go read a couple of historical boards if you're interested (or go inside to see the museum: I've never been). Then head over to a small beach to the left. Here you can surf during certain months, but it is a little rocky! If you just want to walk, head to the right side of the beach and start your cliff walk!

This walk is comprised of large rocks along the shore going around the lighthouse point. There is no fence separating you from the ocean, so mind your footing! (there is however a fence to keep you from the lighthouse property, how nice of them...)If you choose to go during high tide, be prepared to either dodge oncoming waves, or just revel in it and get wet!Sometimes it can get a little crowded in spots, so you may need to shimmy hear and there if you are going faster or slower than the people around you, but overall it's a very calm walk.

Once you finish the cliff walk on the rocks, there is a small beach you can relax on. Typically, there will be some surfers down the coast that you can admire. To get back, go to the right and follow a little dirt path through the bushes and go back to the swing benches to finish watching the sunset.
