About this place

Added by Outbound

Hike this well-known skiing hot spot along a beautiful trail featuring many waterfalls. Enjoy your lunch on the large summit of Gore Mountain featuring views as far as the high peaks including New York's highest peak Mount Marcy.

You will start this hike following the blue blazed Schaefer trail. Though the sign shows 5.8 miles to the summit it is actually only 5.0 miles. Much of the way you follow Roaring Brook which has many waterfalls along the way. Just after the North Creek Reservoir you will get your first glance at the summit. You will pass through an open area shaped like an amphitheater, known as Dave's Cirque. You will also cross some ski slopes. Once you reach Saddle Lodge the trail then follows the Cloud Trail (ski slope) to the summit. This is a steady and fairly steep climb. Though the fire tower cab is open it is covered with a lot of satellite equipment.

Views can be had without climbing the tower. You can see nearby Crane Mountain as well as the High Peaks on a clear day!

This is a popular ski resort. The hiking trail is not accessible during the skiing season.
