About this place

Added by Shaun O'Neill

8 Miles roundtrip across 3 mountains. 1950 feet of elevation gain. Sweeping views, beautiful sunsets. Bulldozer reclaimed by nature.

Fishkill Ridge is a strenuous but rewarding hike, and one of the less known areas in the Hudson Valley. The parking area is at the very end of Sunnyside Road in Beacon, along with the information board at the trailhead. The red trail leaves the lot and will take you up to the first peak on the ridge.

After a short incline, a white trail will shoot off to the left that leads to a private mountaintop camp ground. Continue on the red trail, across the creek (which depending on the time of year can either be dry as a bone or flowing nicely) and snake steadily uphill. Red will intersect with another white trail at the top of the first mountain, giving you a view of Mt Beacon, as well as the Hudson and Beacon itself.

Turn left and head east on the white trail where you'll drop down slightly and back up onto Lamb Hill. not much of a view here but it is a night spot to sit for a bit and picnic. White will continue down, pass blue (we'll come back to that later) and loop up and around Bald Hill. There's a few look outs here to be enjoyed before you head down and go back along the bottom of the ridge. White will hit the Blue trail again to the right which will take you to Dozer Junction, aptly named due to the very random bulldozer sitting next to the trail slowly becoming a planter.

This will put you back on the white trail at the bottom of Lamb Hill where you'll head back up and take the same route of white to red to the parking lot.
