About this place

Added by Outbound

Buck Mountain is a spectacular viewing spot for a sunset over Lake George and the surrounding mountains!

There are a few options for this mountain. The route described is the easiest approach and therefore the nicest for a sunset hike.

Starting at the trailhead on Shelving Rock Road the sign will read 2.5 miles to the summit. The trail is easy to follow and marked with blue discs. Gentle grade for the majority of the hike with a few steeper areas after the 1.0 mile mark. You will pass over several small streams, easily passable. Just before the summit you will see a tree to your right marking the way to the summit.

The summit is large and open. The views are spectacular including Lake George down below. The surrounding mountains include Tongue Mountain Range Sleeping Beauty & Black. Even further out you can see Crane, Gore and Blue. You can also see the landscape of the high peaks!
