About this place

Added by Tristan Willey

La Luz is a scenic 7.2 mile point-to-point hike in the Sandia Mountains just outside of Albuquerque.

Leaving from the foothills above Albuquerque this trail leads you from the desert up to the peaks of the Sandia Mountains.  You'll climb from the city at 7000 ft above sea level all the way up to 10,378 ft in altitude along a trail the changes from high desert to deep pine forest.  The views along the way looking out over the city, the river valley, and the mountain range is an unending show of spectacular sights. The trail can be slightly technical across the rock slide sections, but are well marked and easily navigated.

The Sandia Peak Tramway is a short hike from the summit and can be taken back down the mountain, just be sure to take enough cash for a ticket back down.  Or arrange for a pickup at the top which is accessible by a beautiful drive.
