Hike Embudito Canyon

This is a hiking area in the foothills of the Sandia Mountains. This route is a 3.9 mile heavily trafficked loop up Oso Ridge and down Embudito Canyon. 

There is plenty of room to park at the Embudito Trail Trail head, on the eastern side of Albuquerque. From the parking lot, take the center trail that heads directly east. After 0.1 miles, this will crossover another path running north to south. Turn left here. You are now on Oso Ridge trail.

There are several variations of trails, but this route travels in a clockwise direction, traveling up the ridge line and down a canyon creek bed. The Oso Ridge section lasts for 1.2 miles of ascent.

 Near the back end of this loop, be prepared for several sections where the trail is overgrown and easy to lose. When you reach a T in the path, turn right. You should be faced to the west as you start traveling downhill.

This is an amazing hike in the winter, but be careful during the wetter months as the creek bed can be muddy and slippery. For just over a mile, this descent will be a slow, switch-backing scramble.

The final mile will return you to a flat, dry path in the foothills, and leads right back to the parking lot. Watch for snakes and rabbits in this area!
