About this place

Added by Chris Mongeau

Enjoy scenic views of the White Mountains on the Picturesque loop road around Newfound Lake.

As a kid, I spent many of my summer and winter vacations on Newfound Lake in New Hampshire and can say without a doubt that it is one of the first places to spark my love for the outdoors. If your'e heading up to the White Mountains in the winter time to ski/snowboard, a drive around Newfound Lake in Bristol, NH is well worth the 45 minutes to an hour (depending on how often you stop to take photos).

To get to the lake, you'll want to follow Route 104 to Route 3A off of I-93 to West Shore Road. If you turn left on West Shore Road you'll eventually end up at Wellington State Park which is situated on the lake.

Follow West Shore Road along the lake until you reach North Shore Road in Hebron. Turn right on North Shore Road and follow that a short distance until you get to Route 3A. Turn right to continue the loop along 3A, or go left for points north like Franconia Notch and Cannon Mountain.

Newfound Lake is a glacial lake and arguably one of the most beautiful in New Hampshire. During the winter, the lake is a deep blue and the water is always crystal clear (when it's not frozen over). The mountains surrounding the lake in all directions are breathtaking, especially for sunrise.

Check the weather report before heading here in the colder months if you have a 2WD vehicle, because snow is common and these roads aren't exactly plowed all of the time!
