About this place

Added by Josiah Roe

Hot springs and solitude in one of the most remote corners of the Lower 48 States.

Tucked away in a remote corner of northwest Nevada on the Oregon border, Bog Hot Springs is perhaps the ideal of the Nevada Hot Springs experience: public land, no amenities, minimal-to-no-development, an abundance of wildlife, and solitude almost year round (hunting season excepted).

The Hot Spring itself is actually a creek that has been damn in a series of pools, with the hot springs themselves warming the creek. The average temperature of the lower pools is 105 degrees with the hottest portion being to the north. Always check the temperature of the water before entering.

Getting there is the difficult part: you are 5 hours from Boise, 4.5 from Reno, and 4.5 from Bend Oregon, and gas is scarce (fuel up any chance you can) but why make it a day trip? Just be sure to camp 100 from the spring and to Leave No Trace.

To get there from Reno: take I-80 East to Winnemucca and head north on Highway 95, going left/west on Highway 140. After going left onto 140 at Denio Junction, go right on Bog Hot Springs road just a few miles past.

From Boise: go East on I-84 and at Nampa take Highway 55 into Marsing until it intersects with Highway 95. Take 95 South until you hit Whitehorse Ranch Lane which cuts over west to intersect with Road 205 just north of Denio. Go left, then right at Denio Junction on Highway 140. Bog Hot Springs road is on the right, several miles ahead.

From Bend: take 97 south to Highway 31. Take 31 all the way until it intersects with 395, go right/south. Take 395 until it intersects with Highway 140. Go left onto 140 and take it until you reach Bog Hot Springs road and go left.
