Exploring the Charming Coastal Village of Doolin, Ireland

Exploring the Charming Coastal Village of Doolin, Ireland

As I typed the title of this story, I could hear my Airbnb host say those words in her thick Irish accent and it brought a smile to my face. Reminiscing on my time in Ireland is a good way to spend a few hours during the Covid-19 era.

Unfortunately, I had terrible weather while in Doolin.  It poured an average of 22 hours a day and the winds were crazy. I still had an incredible time and as my Airbnb host said I "really got to experience the wild in the Wild Atlantic Way.” I look forward to going back someday when there’s a little more sunshine and a lot less rain.

Doolin is on the west coast of Ireland and has a lot to offer.  Most notably would be its proximity to the enormous Cliffs of Moher.  Second would be that it’s a gateway to the Aran Islands.

From Doolin you can also explore Burren National Park.  I took a quick drive to Fanore Beach one day when it was raining and I was tired of being soaked.  The drive was scenic and I was happy to be warm in the car and hopped out for a quick walk along the beach once I arrived.

For dinner Gus O’Connor’s Pub had come highly recommended and did not disappoint.  The food was tasty and the traditional live music made for a perfect atmosphere.  Before dinner one night I hit up the Doolin Pier and lucked out with the rain as I got to listen and watch the massive waves crash in the Atlantic Ocean.

Other places to check out in Doolin include the Ballinalacken Castle and Doonagore Castle ruins dating back to the 15th and early 16th centuries.

I would recommend spending at least two nights in Doolin, giving you a higher probability of clear skies to explore all the wonder this coastal village has to offer.
