With a short window of opportunity for visiting, Logan Pass offers a wealth of photographic options. As the winter snows start to melt, a lush alpine environment of waterfalls and wildflowers is revealed, as well as wildlife returning to the area. If you bring a telephoto lens and patience, you'll find bighorn sheep, mountain goats, marmots, pikas, and even an occasional grizzly bear. Far away from any major cities, the pass has incredible views of the Milky Way, and if you're especially lucky you might catch a display of the Northern Lights.

The Going-to-the-Sun run usually opens completely in the beginning of July and closes around mid-October. Logan Pass can still have large areas of snow cover well into August so always check conditions before planning a visit. The ecosystem of the pass is very fragile due to the short growing season and high elevation. To protect the natural environment, the park has more recently enacted a closure to all off-trail travel in the area without implementing a permit process or submitting for public comments.
