About this place

Added by Josiah Roe

One of the most iconic photography locations in one of the most iconic parks in the world.

Wild Goose Island in Glacier National Park is one of the most iconic photography locations in the park. As a subject it differs wildly from time of year and time of day; a gorgeous 14' tall element surrounded by a vast alpine lake in the heart of a glaciated valley set against glacier-carved peaks.

The Wild Goose Island viewpoint can be found along the eastern end of Going-To-The-Sun Road along Saint Mary Lake, about 12 miles from the town of St. Mary to the east.

Going-To-The-Sun Road is closed during winters though they often open a section past the viewpoint by the middle of June, so be sure to check the road conditions.
