Located between I-90 and the Pintler Scenic Highway near the town of Anaconda, Lost Creek State Park is a small park with a large character. The park's defining feature is a moderate sized waterfall, which cascades down a series of granitic terraces.
Drive along the park road until the road loops back near the campground. Park in any available space. From here, the falls are a short, 200 yard walk down a paved trail. Be sure to wear slip resistant shoes that you don't mind getting wet.
After photographing the falls, be sure to follow the trail (a former Forest Service road) for a mile or two to truly experience this subalpine park. If you're feeling adventurous, scramble up the scree slopes bordering the valley for a chance to see bighorn sheep and mountain goats. The occasional elk and moose have been known to frequent the park as well.
For best results, grab one of the creek-side campsites and cast a few lines as you wait for the golden hour.
Other activities include camping, trout fishing, hiking, and wildlife viewing.
