About this place

Added by Gavin Pirrie

An enjoyable, gradual route to the highpoint of the Flint Creek Range with spectacular views from the summit.

From Interstate 90, exit at Racetrack #195. Continue west for one mile and turn north at a T intersection. Follow the road for about 0.75 mi. to Quinlan Rd. and continue west with a dogleg south for 3.5 mi. Take a sharp right to the north east to a Y and take the left fork. After about 0.07 mi., turn right up a hill on Forest Service Road #8507. Follow #8507 7.5 mi. to the trailhead. The Forest Service road can be soft and muddy when wet.

After parking at the trailhead, follow the ATV road for about 0.6 mi. and watch north until you see a clearing. Bushwack for about 100 yards and gain the ridge above the clearing. At the ridge, there is a cattle trail. Follow this cattle trail to a meadow. Follow along the ridge north west to a plateau at 8600 ft. From the plateau, follow the south ridge up to the summit of Mount Powell. The ridge has no technical climbing, mainly class II scrambling with minimal exposure.

To descend, follow the ascent route.
