About this place

Added by Pete Milne

From the boardwalk, to the summit of Reynolds Mountain it's a healthy mix of an enjoyable walk to a challenging climb. You'll also get a sense of private accomplishment that is achieved in plain site of one of busiest trails in the park. Once at the top, the view is an un-describable display of almost the entire Glacier National Park.

Reynolds Mountain stands high above the Logan Pass Visitors Center. Because of it's easy location, be prepared to get caught in the heavy rush of tourists on the way up. Though most will not be going to Reynolds Mountain, you will still need to "wade" through heavy tourism to reach the trail head that finally separates you from the masses.

To start, make sure you make the drive early in the morning to secure a parking spot. The Logan Pass parking lot fills up fast during peak season, sometimes before 9 a.m.

From the Visitors Center it is a 5.5 mile hike one way. Plan on an all-day adventure. Hike up the boardwalk toward Hidden Lake. Once the boardwalk ascends no more, Mount Clements will be directly to your right. The trail faintly starts to your left and continues across a mild face of rock and sparse timber. In the spring time, stop and enjoy the beautiful alpine wild flowers that will be in bloom The trail will loop up to a saddle that sits right below the north face of Reynolds Mountain. It is a great place to stop, take a break and enjoy the views of Bearhat Mountain, Going-to-the-Sun Road and The Dragon's Tail.

Research your ascent carefully. As you continue around the South side of Reynolds Mountain, the trail will shoot strait up through a not-so-enjoyable scree field. After the scree field, cairns can be spotted speckled throughout the rest of the route. Be cautious of wildlife, other climbers and loose rock that are easily misplaced.

The elevation at the summit is 9.125 feet (2,781 meters) and worth every step!
