About this place

Added by Elizabeth Carlson

Pitamakan Pass is one of many hidden gems in Glacier National Park. You will discover breathtaking mountain top views and pass by several serene lakes. Buckle that chest strap because this is not a trail to mess with.

This gripping, 16 mile round trail reveals adventure at every turn. Nestled behind Pray Lake in Glacier National Park, the Pitamakan Pass hike will begin at the North Shore Trailhead. To access this trailhead, a fifteen dollar fee may be payed to cross Pray Lake by boat. If your pocket book is running dry or you're really wanting to burn some extra calories, a 1.5 mile trail near Two Medicine Campground will lead you around the lake and to North Shore Trailhead. Once you've reached your starting point, the adventure begins and the trail is well marked.

As a quick note of caution, this trail is not to be taken lightly. Be expecting an elevation gain of roughly 2,500 feet and some high winds on top of the pass due to lack of cover. You will have many precious miles of solitude, so pay careful attention to wildlife and take the necessary measures to stay safe.
