Relax at Fairy Lake

Have a day to kick back and relax? With just a short drive of under an hour (from Bozeman), you could be enjoying the outdoors at a scenic alpine lake. Fairy Lake is a gorgeous glacial lake located at the north eastern base of Sacagawea Peak in the Bridger Mountain Range.

To access the lake trail, head north on Bridger Canyon Road. After mile marker 21 keep an eye out for a dirt road on the left labeled Fairy Lake Road (FSR 74). Continue on this dirt road until it ends, approximately 6.2 miles. The road is rough and conditions of it vary depending on the time of year, a vehicle with higher clearance is recommended but not required. The road ends at a spacious parking area with a picnic area to the north and a campground to the west. The trail to the lake passes the restroom and continues a very short distance to the lake, probably about 0.15 miles. There is a shorter route that veers off to the right that heads down a log stair case. If you head straight the highly maintained trail (handicap accessible) switchbacks a few times and hits the lake. The maintained portion of the trail exists for approximately one third of the trail. This portion is located on the northern side of the lake, where the approach places you. The lake loop is approximately 1.2 miles and grants you scenic views around the entire lake.

Fairly Lake offers a relaxed environment to enjoy the outdoors with a group of friends or even solo. So string up a hammock, sit back, and watch the day roll by. If you're the adventurous type, theres a small rope swing located at the southern side of the lake, if yore able to stand the frigid water.
