About this place

Added by Will Parker

Take a sunset bike ride and walk along the historic Katy Trail Bridge.

Whether you are biking along the historic Katy Trail, or driving through Central Missouri on your cross country road trip, you won't want to miss the Katy Trail Bridge.  Located on the banks of the Missouri River in downtown Boonville, MO, the restored Katy Trail bridge provides a rare glimpse into Missouri's past.

The last train to utilize the Katy Trail Bridge was in 1986, a flood knocked out the power to the northern portion of the bridge and the train track ceased to be used.  The Union Pacific Railroad ordered the bridge be demolished to fund other rail projects in Missouri, but after a long lawsuit battle in the Missouri courts, the bridge ownership was turned over to the Katy Bridge Coalition, barely escaping demolition.

The first phase of the restoration is complete, a third of the bridge on the Boonville/Cooper County side has been restored so visitors can walk out above the water.  Follow on restoration phases will finish the bridge, allowing Katy Trail bikers and pedestrians to cross the entire river.

After you catch a glimpse of the Big Muddy, head on down to Maggie's Bar  Grill and grab a McMaggies Burger and an ice cold beer.  If you are craving desert, bike down to Carrie Lyn's Ice Cream Parlor, both located on Main street in downtown Boonville, MO.
