About this place

Added by Payton Bartlett

This is an amazing intermediate backpacking trip located in Haha Tonka State Park.

This 6.5 mile loop is a great hike that takes you into the Haha Tonka Oak Woodland Natural Area. It shares a trailhead with the Acorn Trail but is clearly marked on which way you should go. This hike isn't super challenging but make sure that you are in good physical condition and that you have some knowledge about backpacking/hiking.  After about two miles the trail gives you an option to go right but you will want to stay to the left. If you do go right it will take you to Post Office Road. There is a connector about three miles in that you can take to shorten your trip to five miles but you will miss the backpacking camp if you do. The backpacking camp is easy to find and is about five miles in. You do not have to camp here if your group is smaller than seven but it is a good distance in and still gives you a good distance to hike the next day. The total hike time should probably be around three hours.

Be sure to fill out a registration card before you start just in case anything goes wrong. Make sure to take a trail map and a compass as well.

There are going to be seed ticks during the summer so wear pants and tall socks. Bug spray is also going to be a good idea.
