Riverside Trail Loop in William O'Brien State Park is a great quick hike an hour away from the Twin Cities. Hike alongside Alice Lake and see great views of the St. Croix river. Swimming and picnic areas are located alongside the trails.
From the Visitor Center Parking lot follow the Riverside Trail along the side of the lot and down the main road. You will go under the bridge and while walking next to the road you can see great views of Lake Alice. When you reach the bottom of the hill, turn right to walk alongside the lake. On the loop you will encounter a picnic shelter and a swimming beach, as well as a campground. You can stop here for a snack or keep going for views along the St. Croix river. Wildflowers grow in this area and sometimes you can spot a river otter. When the trail loops back up to the main road, follow it back up the hill and return to the Visitor Center. During the winter, the Riverside Trail is one of two hiking trails in the park and is also a special, winter-only, Hiking Club Trail.
