Log Slide Overlook

Log Slide Overlook on Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in Michigan's upper peninsula stands over 500ft above the water and provides stunning views of Lake Superior.

Pictured Rocks is home to many beautiful waterfalls, hikes, cliffs and vistas, including Log Slide Overlook. This location is an old log chute used by loggers back in the 18-1900s. They would bring fresh cut timbers to the top of the dune and send them 500ft down the steep slope to the waters of Lake Superior where they were then loaded onto ships for transport.

The dune itself is climbable, but signs near the top of the overlook indicate a strenuous hike. It takes minutes to get down (be very careful though as it is very steep) but can take hours to climb up due to the loose sand and steep slope.

Near the top of the overlook, one can get beautiful vistas of the lake and the rest of the national lakeshore. The hike to the overlook is about a quarter mile and is very easy to access.
