About this place

Added by Holly Mandarich

Pyramid Point is a well appreciated trail in the area. It provides 180 degree views of the Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes, North & South Manitou Islands, Lake Michigan and Leland!

The trail beings at the parking lot, it takes about 20 minutes to get to the famous overlook, about a 570 foot elevation gain. As you start the trail, after about .4 miles you will find a juncture off to your right, stay straight and it will lead you to the overlook. After you take in the sweeping views of the area, feel free to continue to hike, by following the trail back the way you came to join up with juncture you passed to make a 2.8 mile loop out of the trail.

From the lookout, you will backtrack about .2 miles, and take the only turn off on your left hand side. As you come out of the woods, you will descend out onto a bluff. The trail follows the bluff for another .6 miles. After in which you can continue on to the meadow or make a right hand turn to spit you out toward Basch Rd (another .3 miles) to take you back to the parking lot. When you get to Basch Rd. be sure to head west and not south along the road to return to your vehicle!

For winter conditions - if you are hiking on the cold sand, I would highly recommend bringing crampons or microspikes, as conditions can get icy. The park service recommends that you do not descend down the bluff to the lakeshore, as it can be steep and hard to climb up being that there is no designated trail.

For a map of the trail, visit the parks website! No fees are required to hike this trail.
