Hike 200 feet above the picturesque Manistee River valley on one of the most scenic trails in Lower Michigan.
Park at the High Rollway Observation Deck in Kingsley. There's actually two parking lots that you will come to on a dirt road. I suggest parking at the eastern most lot (drive straight instead of making a final right turn).
There are two primary wooden platform lookouts near the parking lots. Be sure to stop at both. Continue hiking west and you will come to even more expansive views on the trail and beautiful forest. In most spots, you will be able to see at least 5-10 miles in the distance. Be sure to closely follow the blue blazes on the trees as there are several places with multiple worn trails.
Approximately 1.5 miles in, you will come to a gorgeous 180 degree turn in the river with steep sandy banks. If you return the way you came, this will be a very scenic 3 mile hike.
The North Country Trail is a multi-state trail. Feel free to add onto the length of your hike.
