Want a nice day hike along Lake Superior with a smaller crowd than you'll find in Marquette, but still a nice place to cliff jump and hang out for a day? Save yourself from Black Rocks and head North of town.
Drive to the Wetmore Landing Parking Lot, right off County Road 550 North of Marquette. Park then walk out to the beach- there's 2 routes you can take.
The North Country Trail runs East to West along the coast here, you can hop on that and go right from the parking lot (East) and follow the trail along the top of the cliffs -or- Walk right to the beach from the parking lot and go East, with Lake Superior on your left. If you walk along the beach, at some point you'll have to take the trail up to the top of the ridge to finish off the last bit of the hike.
Rum Runner's is visible from the start of the hike. Once you're there, walk down to the rocks and you'll see a set of concrete steps, Rum Runner's was actually used as a smuggling cove during the prohibition and this is the remnants of that. You can cliff jump from the end of the large rock that makes up the bulk of the little cove. The water is cold and the climb back up can be tricky, but have common sense and good judgement (and see the photos for reference).
