Camp at Playa La Gringa, Bahía de Los Angeles

To say that Bahía de Los Angeles is remote is an understatement. It has one gas station, two "restaurants", no cell service, and one absolutely picturesque volcanic island just offshore, Isla Coronado. It is Baja in all its rustic glory.

While there are a couple of campos where you can rent a palapa or park your RV/Westie, free camping is easily found by driving 5 miles north out of town to the end of the road to long beach and dispersed camping area called Playa La Gringa, which is written out in rocks on the side of the hill overlooking the beach and peninsula.

There are no services of any kind and cell service is non-existent. You should be fully self-sufficient, though there is one gas station and two restaurants with wifi in Bahía de Los Angeles. There are numerous sandy spots so be careful as not to get stuck.

It can be very windy in the Winter, so prepare accordingly. The entire area is fantastic for kayaking, snorkeling, swimming, hiking, and ATV-ing. In the summer it is suffocatingly hot as one would expect in Baja.

To get to Bahía de Los Angeles, take the turnoff of Highway 1 at Punta Prieta 80 kilometers east till the road dead ends.
