About this place

Added by Josiah Roe

Rugged and rustic beach camping with unparalleled views of Bahía de Concepcíon in the heart of the Baja wilderness on the Sea of Cortez.

Of the nine or so beaches where you can camp and/or find lodging along the eastern shore of Bahía de Concepcíon in Baja, El Requeson is arguably the most beautiful. It has no facilities, no cell service, and no amenities other than the occasional local vendor who may (or may not) come by in the morning to offer water or empanadas for sale.

To get there, if you are heading south along Highway 1 it is the next to last of the beaches before the long 100km drive to the nearest town, Loreto. It is roughly a two day drive from the border between the United States and Mexico; about 40 minutes south of the town of Mulegé.

On low tide there is a sand spit that allows you to walk across to Isla Requeson, itself beautiful and covered in cacti and mangroves. The unique nature of the beach makes the turnoff almost impossible to miss.
