About this place

Added by Danielle Tourigny

Spend an afternoon summiting the highest peak in Southern Maine, and it's only one hour outside of Portland!

After turning on Mountain Rd, look for East Pinnacle Condominiums. The trailhead is about 0.1miles after that on the right between the telephone poles marked 49 and 50. There is a dirt parking lot to pull into.

Now on to the hike! This hike begins by heading straight uphill immediately, and you gain about 1,300ft of elevation in about 1.5miles. The signs say that it is a mile up, but my GPS tracker reported about 1.5miles and that felt a little more accurate. There is no break in the elevation gain and there is no view until you reach the summit of Bald Peak. But once you get there the views are beautiful! You can see the white mountains and the landscape is spotted by the back road lakes of Maine.

Side note: We also saw a Golden Eagle at the summit of Bald Peak! Its wing span was about 5ft and it flew right above us. It was insanely cool.

After Bald Peak, hike another 1.5miles to Mt. Pleasant. The trail there is meanders in and out of the puckerbrush. You end up gaining about another 100-200ft, but there is a fair amount of up and down. The summit of Mt. Pleasant is marked by a fire tower and stands at 2,006ft. Enjoy the view and then turn around to head back from where you came!
