About this place

Added by Tate Yoder

Rocky Pond via Kidney Point Road is just over one mile each way (2 miles roundtrip) and provides views of the beautiful and remote mountains of Northern Maine. This destination avoids the crowds at more popular hikes in Baxter State Park.

Anytime you're visiting Baxter State Park it is worth making a quick stop at Kidney Pond Campground and hiking the Rocky Pond Trail. From the park's South Gate, Kidney Pond is about an hour's drive along the Park Tote Road heading Northwest. Once on Kidney Pond Road, stay straight at the turn and it will bring you directly to the parking lot. The main trailhead is in front of the parking lot. There are other hiking options, but follow the signs for Rocky Pond.

There are other options if you wish to hike more. Once at Rocky Pond, you can follow the trail onward about .5 miles to get to Little Rocky Pond.

If you hike on or not, both ponds will offer exceptional views of these remote mountains. The shores of these ponds have plenty of rocks to jump around on and explore.

Be on the lookout for Moose, as these two ponds are famously known to be a great location to spot these massive creatures.
