Explore the Oak Alley Plantation

Located an hour and twenty minutes west of New Orleans, I had originally planned to make a quick pit stop at this Plantation while passing through just to snap a photo of the oaks, before I knew it I had spent 6 hours wandering its properties and learning all about the incredible past of this home and its tenants! 

Admission is $22 for adults, $8 for youth (13-18 years old) and $5 for children (6-12 years old). Admission includes a free guided tour of the home, self guided tour of the property, the blacksmith shop and civil war encampment. 

Photography is permitted around the property as long as you don't interfere with the tours. Getting a shot of the front of the house will require some patience but it surely is worth the wait! Get your shot setup in advance and be ready! The tour will exit through the top balcony and work their way to the back of the house. This is the best time to snap your picture because that group will soon be lead downstairs and around the front of the house and another group will soon follow out the front door on the top balcony again. 

When you're all done be sure to head to the restaurant and treat yourself to a refreshing Mint Julep!
